INSTALLATION FOR "BE SEATED" ART EXHIBITION

 There was a call from the Knysna Art Society, inviting members to create a 3D installation with an option of using performance art. The theme being movies and/or poetry and the brief - # think chair! 

THE PROCESS

First thought -  “Hot Seat!” Original….., probably not.

I stuck with it though.

When you’re in the hot seat….you’re in the position of carrying the full responsibility for something important. This appealed to me, and also…, I’ve been daunted…, but wanting to tackle painting fire.

A little bit of thought on the subject had me thinking about:

•  how terrifying as well as cathartic fire is.
• many cultures view fire as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
• >‘Fire’ or ‘On fire’ is a slang term used to describe  something that is exciting, outstanding, or popular.

• .

A bit of googling told me that a movie, 

"Hot Seat", was released in 2022. Unfortunately

the movie bombed! . . . . .  (See what I did there?)

 

 So all fired-up with enthusiasm, I began to gather….

a stretched canvas, an old wooden chair, enough

paint to cover both and then I set it all up in

my ‘studio’.

As part of the experiment, I used artificial intelligence to aid in my gathering/percolating phase of creating. Controversial!?!.....

 On the 1^st of September 2023 I signed in to the URL - https://chat.openai.com. ChatGPT  is a large language model-based chatbot developed by OpenAI. I requested that the (version 3 August) software, write a poem with the title of Hot Seat. 

 This is the result, I kid you not!

Hot Seat

In the realm where flames dance bold and fleet,

Sits a throne of fire, in the scorching heat.

A crucible of trials, where courage meets fate,

They call it the inferno, the dreaded Hot Seat.

 

With sweat-soaked brows and hearts that race,

Brave souls step forward to claim their place.

In the crucible's glow, their stories unfold,

As they strive for glory, for fortunes untold.

 

Each question a fireball, each answer a test,

In this blazing arena, they give their best.

But only the fearless, with minds sharp and neat,

Can survive the ordeal of the blistering Hot Seat.

 

With wisdom and wit, they battle the blaze,

As the audience watches, in a mesmerized daze.

In the end, one shall triumph, their victory sweet,

While others retreat from the searing Hot Seat.

 

So, let us salute those who dare to compete,

In the quest for knowledge, in the sizzling Hot Seat.

For it's in the crucible of challenge and heat,

That champions are forged, where destiny they meet.
